Chronology of Israel in the Desert

God declares ניסן   the first month of the calendar and gives instructions for the final night in Egypt.

Each Israelite household sets a sheep aside for the קרבן פסח , and for spreading blood on the doorposts.

The lamb is slaughtered and its blood used as a sign. At night, God kills the Egyptian first-borns.

Israel's daily ration of מן   begins and lasts for 40 years.

Three days of preparation prior to revelation: שלשת ימי הגבלה .

Revelation: מתן תורה . God's pronouncement of the עשרת הדברות .

משה   ascends הר סיני   to receive the לוחות .

Israel constructs the עגל הזהב and משה   smashes the  לוחות .

The עגל   is destroyed and the sinners are punished.

משה   ascends הר סיני   to beg God to forgive Israel.

משה   carves two tablets out of stone which he delivers to God to be engraved.

משה   stays with God for 40 days and nights; God engraves the עשרת הדברות   a second time on the stones משה   brings.

Construction of the משכן ; the project ends on א ' ניסן   of the second year.

אהרן   and his sons take 7 days to prepare for service in the משכן . On the 8th day - א ' ניסן - they start work.

The נשיאים , chiefs of each שבט , bring offerings at the dedication of the משכן , one נשיא   each for twelve days.

בני ישראל   leave הר סיני   (after 10 months and 19 days) for their journey to ארץ ישראל .

משה   sends men to explore the land of Israel. Their mission takes 40 days.

בני ישראל   spend 38 years wandering in מדבר סיני   as punishment for the debacle of the מרגלים .

משה 's speech to בני ישראל   before his death: ספר דברים . משה 's address to the nation takes a month and 7 days.

The mourning period for משה : 30 days.

בני ישראל   cross into ארץ ישראל   led by יהושע בן נון .
